Story in 100 words Aug. 28, 2014

I was simply going to look up, smile and keep walking. That was my plan until the middle-aged man blocked the sidewalk and extended his hand to shake mine. “How have you been?” He said, “I’ve seen you around campus.” I had never seen this man in my life. He told me he was going to the mental clinic down the road. I could’ve walked away, but I could see he needed someone. He asked for money for food. All I had was a $20 bill. Students at The University have expressed mixed opinions about this summer’s transformation of the Weinberg Memorial Library’s 24-hour room into the Reilly Learning Commons. The technology in this area of the library has improved, but there is doubt about whether the technology has made studying in this area easier and more effective.

Michelle McHugh, Reilly Learning Commons coordinator and cataloging librarian, said the Reilly family donated around $400,000 to fund the changes to the room.
